Briones is a Spanish municipality located in the autonomous region of La Rioja, in northern Spain. It is located in the district of Haro, at an altitude of 586 metres above sea level and has a population of around 800 inhabitants.
Briones is known for its historical and cultural heritage, especially for its old quarter, which has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. The town preserves a large number of historic buildings, such as the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, which dates from the 16th century, and the Palace of the Counts of Rodezno, an imposing 16th-century Renaissance building that houses the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture.
Briones is also one of the villages included in the Monastery Route of La Rioja, which covers the most outstanding monasteries and chapels in the region.
As for its natural surroundings, Briones is surrounded by vineyards and cereal fields, making it an ideal destination for lovers of wine tourism and gastronomy. The town is located in what is known as the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin, one of the main wine-producing regions in Spain.
